Noah Wall: An Amazing Story About Brain Growth

Simply put, this amazing case of brain growth involves an English boy named Noah Wall, whose brain size at birth was only 2% of the brain size of a normal newborn. The very fact that he has survived is an unusual fact, but what has been most incredible about this story has been that over the years, thanks to various treatments and care, he has managed to develop his brain to as much as 80 percent of normal brain volume.

Shelly Wall wanted a child more than anything else in the world. That’s why she was hugely happy to learn that she was going to be a mother. Luck didn’t last long, as after careful examination, the doctors gave him horrific news. His son suffered from severe spina bifida; this meant that the neural tube in the lower part of the fetal spine was not closed during neurulation.

This was not the only bad news. Doctors found that the fetus had a brain tumor and that it had prevented brain gray matter from developing. The child’s brain was basically fluid. The advice of the doctors was to terminate the pregnancy, as it was not possible to correct such serious abnormalities. This new being would be awaited by a life full of limitations.

In fact, it was most likely that the child would not even survive childbirth. And if this were to happen as if by a miracle trade, he would have to bear serious physical and mental injuries throughout his life. Shelly and her husband Rob Wall discussed the matter and decided they wanted to continue the pregnancy. At the same time, they began preparing for the funeral of their future son.

Brain growth

The doctors respected the couple’s decision, but also gave the child a DNR decision ( ” Do Not Resuscitate “). In other words, it is a prohibition that prohibits doctors from taking emergency measures if Noah stopped breathing for one reason or another at birth. Shelly underwent caesarean section on March 6, 2012, assisted by a total of 12 physicians.

The baby was immediately taken to the operating room to repair the neural tube of the spine, where most of the cerebrospinal fluid that inhabited the brain was also emptied. To everyone’s surprise, the operation was a complete success and the boy survived.

Noah’s childhood has been marked by doctors, surgeries, hospital visits, and the constant struggle of his parents to care for him and help him grow.
