Henry James wrote an excellent story called “The Jolly Corner”. In it, he introduced Spencer Brydon, a young man who, after gaining success and wealth in the United States, returned to his native England.
In the loneliness of a new, empty home, he begins to wonder if he made a good choice and whether his departure was the right decision. In the midst of all these doubts, his alter ego suddenly rises to the surface, his “second self,” showing him a little at once what he would have become if he hadn’t made that decision.

The question of whether we made the right decision or not is something that will always stay with us. As Henry James teaches us in his story, when we make a decision, we use our hearts first, but immediately followed by responsibility. We make use of our emotions, then our reason and, above all, our duty to be the architect of the paths we want to take.
